Craig Perko, creator of Debris Fishing, often posts enjoyable and insightful musings on game design on Twitter and YouTube.
So, follow Craig Perko and all that.
Recently he posted about the design space for construction games and what kinds of designs drive player interest and what kinds don’t.
He talks about how you can you get the player from “I built this to solve this one problem” to “Now that I’m done building this, I want to build THAT” forever.
He compares the game Main Assembly to Storm Works: Build and Rescue, specifically looking at what in the game drives the player’s desire to build their vehicles.
And it has me thinking about future game designs of mine, even if I don’t intend to create a construction game.
