Catching Up On Life

Posted by GBGames on November 29th, 2007

Since moving into my current apartment in August, I’ve let things get a bit out of control in my life. My last Thousander Club post was in September. My inbox has been looking like a huge chore to get through. My blog comments were an even worse chore, but I hope I fixed that problem […]

Happy Thanksgiving!

Posted by GBGames on November 22nd, 2007

I know it’s an American holiday, and I know I have a lot of international readers, and I know I haven’t updated in a long time, but Happy Thanksgiving!
I’m thankful that I have so many supportive friends.
I’m thankful that I can take such a long break from working on my business and the only boss […]

The Return of Spam

Posted by GBGames on October 20th, 2007

I’ve been getting a lot more spam comments on this blog. It’s frustrating enough that I haven’t been dedicating the time to writing new posts, but the time I do dedicate to my blog has been spent deleting hundreds of messages at a time.
I’ve found some interesting spam messages. Today I learned about someone supposedly […]

The Internet: I Has It

Posted by GBGames on September 8th, 2007

Yesterday the cable was finally setup in my apartment. Since they don’t support Gnu/Linux, and the tech couldn’t figure out why my laptop thought it didn’t have an Ethernet port, he had to set it up on my girlfriend’s PC.
I had to talk to them on the phone since I was at work when they […]

Still No Network Access From Home

Posted by GBGames on August 28th, 2007

I still need to borrow network access from friends and family when I visit because the cable provider just can’t be that much in a hurry to take my money. Someone came out yesterday to install a cable line into the apartment, but now I need to wait until September 7th for someone to come […]

Moving Day

Posted by GBGames on August 11th, 2007

I’m moving today. Tomorrow afternoon the cable company is sending a technician out to install our cable so hopefully I will have Internet access by the end of the day.
That is, assuming that the install is much, much smoother than the conversation with sales to actually schedule this visit. I am already not happy […]

What is Artificial Intelligence?

Posted by GBGames on July 25th, 2007

When I was in college, I asked a coworker of mine what his major was. He replied that he was studying artificial intelligence. The conversation kind of went like the following:
Me: Oh, cool!
Him: Well, actually, it’s probably not what you think…
Me: So are you studying neural nets and expert systems?
Him, visibly surprised: …Uh, yeah, actually.
Me: […]

Upgrading from Ubuntu Edgy to Ubuntu Feisty

Posted by GBGames on July 18th, 2007

As I mentioned before, I tried to upgrade my laptop from Edgy to Feisty. I had read about upgrades from Dapper to Edgy being a problem, but I also read that upgrading to Feisty shouldn’t be.
I was wrong. After the upgrade, I couldn’t boot into Ubuntu. I would instead see the following:
Check root= bootarg cat […]

GPL v3 Released

Posted by GBGames on June 30th, 2007

The Free Software Foundation launched GPLv3 yesterday. You can read the wording of the license in its final form.
What does it mean for software developers and indie developers in particular? I don’t know. The GPLv2 was written over a decade ago, and this new version deals with software in the face of new technologies […]

Feminism and Video Games

Posted by GBGames on June 16th, 2007

In What Do We Do About Video Games?, Roy looks at how women and race are portrayed in one of his favorite pastimes, and he isn’t impressed.
In a previous post, I’ve suggested that girl-friendly games aren’t needed so much as games that appeal to non-gamers. I still believe it, but I think that there can […]
