I have been keeping track of books that I have read, but I decided that it would probably be good to make a list of games that I have been playing.
It’s common to read an interview with a major game developer and find the answer to the question “What games are you playing these days?” is “I don’t have a lot of time to play games, actually.” I believe that playing a wide variety of games can help with developing games the same way that reading a variety of books can help with writing novels. You need to be able to play lots of games, both good and bad, to know what works and what doesn’t, to learn what other game developers did, and to be well-informed about your craft.
Each year I will list those games that I’ve been spending a significant amount of time playing. While I’ll create blog entries to document my experiences with most of the games, these lists will just help me see how many games I’m actually able to play.
