Gesh, $400 is a lot of dough.

Wonder if the people that sell the company can always start another game company right after, lol?

I'm biased (since I work for one of Playfish's competitors), but I both hope and believe that EA isn't going to get most, or even a particularly large chunk, of the eyeballs and sales on Facebook. Their cultural DNA is based on standalone big sellers, and I don't see any reason why that would transfer to success on Facebook; and I think it's more likely that they'll kill Playfish's cultural DNA than that either the reverse will happen or that the two cultures will coexist.

I could easily be wrong, though; maybe I'm misinterpreting the books I've been reading, maybe they're wrong, maybe Playfish's revenues are already large enough to give them real clout within EA. And I'm sure EA's execs have read the same books I have and are working on ways to mitigate those risks. Still, both of EA's announcements over the last week made me happy as a competitor of theirs. (But unhappy as a gamer.)

Great questions in the last two paragraphs of your post.
